Braja Mandala
Have you been heard about the famous rock band The Jeevas?? Well, The Jeevas were an English rock band. Its members were Crispian Mills (vocals, guitar), Andy Nixon (drums), and Dan McKinna (bass). Mills rejoined Kula Shaker in late 2005, and The Jeevas disbanded.
Kula Shaker are an English multi-platinum selling psychedelic rock band who came to prominence during the Britpop era. The band became known for their interest in Indian culture, and numerous tracks such as “Tattva” and “Govinda” were written in Sanskrit and featured traditional Indian instruments such as the sitar and the tamboura inter-fused with rock guitar, influenced by frontman Crispian Mills after his visit to India. After releasing two albums they split in September 1999 but officially reformed in 2004 for sessions which led to plans for a full live and album-release comeback. Their reformation was not widely publicised until the beginning of 2006. Their third album, Strangefolk, was released in 2007.
I love Kula Shaker songs, especially Govinda, Radha Ramana and offcourse Braja Mandala song. You can find Braja Mandala song on School of Braja book, this book are not available in Indonesia, so if you interesting, you should order the School of Braja book from abroad.
Braja Mandala, a beautiful song composed by Shrila Rupa Goswami, foremost of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan. In it, he glorifies the name of Radha, Krishna’s dearmost beloved.
Braja Mandala lyrics :
Sri Radhe Jaya Jaya Madhava Dayite
Gokula Taruni Mandala Mahite
Shrimati Radhika! O beloved of Madhava! O You whose glories are sung by the young maidens of Gokula Mandala (Braja)! All glories unto You!! All glories unto You!!
Damodara Rati Vardhana-Vese
Hari-Niskuta Vrndavipinese
From the effulgence emanating from the tips of Your toes, to the top of Your head, Your artistic dress and entire appearance increase Damodara’s loving attachment to You! O Queen of the forest of Vrindavan! O pleasure garden of Lord Hari!
Vrishabhanu-Dadhi-Nava-Sashi-Lekhe
Lalita-Sakhi!-Guna Ramita-Vishake!
Just as the moon was produced from the churning of the ocean of milk. You have arisen like the new moon from the ocean of the affection of Your father, King Vrishabhanu. O dearmost friend of Lalita! O you who have ceptivated the heart of Your intimate sakhi Vishaka with your charming of friendship, kindness, and loyalty to Krishna.
Karunam Kuru Mayi Karuna-Bharite
Sanaka-Sanatana-Varnita-Carite
O Karuna-mayi(all compassionate one)! Even bramachari (celibate) sages like Sanaka and Sanatana meditate on Your transcendental qualities and character. O Sri Radha! Please bestow Your mercy upon me!

The Meaning of “Radhe”
Sri Radhe Jaya Jaya Madhava Dayite
Radhe (the vocative of Radha), it is derived from the Sanskrit word aradyate, which means “to worship” Lord Sri Krishna Himself worships Radhika, and Radha worships Him.
Madhava Dayite. “Radhe, You are very near and dear to Lord Madhava”
Once, Sri Kirshna offended Shri Radha and She exhibited Her divine “sulky” mood. She sat on one side of Her lake called Radha-kund, while Krishna sat on the other. A gentle breeze floated past Shrimati Radhika, brushed over Her veil and carried its sweet fragrance to the other side of the lake. The breeze did not contact Radhika Herself, only the veil that held Her fragrance. Yet its mere touch sent Krishna into bliss and He axclaimed, “Now My life is succesful!”.
Over the years, sages and saintly kings have acquired purity of mind by controlling their minds. But this alone does not qualify them to touch the lotus feet of Sri Krishna, even in their meditation. Radhika is so glorious, however, that this same Krishna becomes overwhelmed upon having any connection with Her, even if it is simply with the fragrance of Her veil.
A verse by the exalted Prabodha-nanda states :”When will I delight in the service of Shrimati Radharani? Struck by the arrow of Her side-long glance, Krishna faints, His flute falls from His hands, the peacock feathers on His head become loosened and His yellow scarf slips from His neck.”
Gokula Taruni Mandala Mahite
Gokula Taruni Mandala Mahite, there are so many gopis living in Gokula, all are extremely beautiful; Candravali is especially beautiful, but none are as beautiful or as near and dear to Krishna and Radhika is.
Damodara Rati Vardhana-Vese
Hari-Niskuta Vrndavipinese
Damodara (Krishna) is controlled by the love of His mother, and in this song, that cery same Krishna is now controlled by Radha. to increase Sri Krishna’s love and affection, She apperars in many beautiful ways. Hari is Krishna, who steals the hearts of everyone, especially the gopis. His garden is Vrndavana, which is abundant with indescribably beautiful and fragrant flowers. The Yamuna River flows there, the peacocks dance and the cuckoos sing. Krishna is understood to be the controller of all the material and spritual worlds, but, Radhika is the controller of Vrindavan. The goddess Vrinda has given her forest (van) to Sri Radha, and has proclaimed Her as the queen of all there.
Vrishabhanu-Dadhi-Nava-Sashi-Lekhe
Lalita-Sakhi!-Guna Ramita-Vishake!
You are like the moon that has arisen from the ocean of the love of your father, Vrishabhanu Maharaj.
Lalita Sakhi refers to radha, Lalita’s divine friend.
In the seventh verse of Sri Lalitastakam, Shrila Rupa Gosvami offers his heartfelt respects to the supremely charming Sri Lalita-devi, the treasure-house of all good qualities. “whenever Lalita discerns that one of the young maidens of Braja is inclined towards service to Sri Radha, she immediately instructs Radha to accept that maiden into Her own group of friends. Radha obeys Lalita, who thus fulfils that maiden’s desire to serve”.
The gophi Vishakha deci took birth on the same day as Radhika, and her beauty and qualites are similar to those of Radhika. Vishakha devi’s voice is so very sweet, even more so than Sri Krishna’s. I pray that She will make me her disciple and train me how to serve Radhika and Krishna.
Karunam Kuru Mayi Karuna-Bharite
Sanaka-Sanatana-Varnita-Carite
In this verse Shrila Rupa Gosvami explains that even first-class celibate yogis, like Sukadeva Gosvami and the four Kumaras (the first born sons os Lord brahma who are forever five years old) glorify Shrimati Radhika. Radha and Krishna’s twenty-four-hour daily pastimes were describe to the four Kumaras by Lord Shiva, who then recorded them in the Brihat-vamana Purana. Here, Shrila Rupa Goswami is glorifying Sanaka, Sananda, Sanat and Sanatana Kumara.
